Scouts

AGBU-AYA LA San Fernando and Pasadena-Glendale troops offer a unique opportunity for young Armenians to connect with their peers and their heritage while learning outdoor skills, engaging in community service projects and participating in educational workshops and experiences. Being an AGBU Scout reinforces lifelong values and bonds to ensure a strong foundation for adulthood.

Outdoor Exploration & Community Service

In today’s world the need to connect with nature and community is more important than ever. AGBU Scouts explore the great outdoors in Southern California’s beautiful and versatile landscape. From canoeing to hiking and more, our scouts flex their abilities and build confidence. Working together, scouts cooperate to meet outdoor challenges presented to them as a team.

AGBU Scouts not only learn how to camp and hike, they prioritize community service. By adopting diverse projects throughout the year— from organizing blood drives to assembling care packages and leading relief efforts— youth are encouraged to think globally and act locally. Scouts proudly serve the Armenian communities and commit their time and efforts to support initiatives in the local Los Angeles community.

Leadership

Becoming an AGBU Scout means obtaining conceptual knowledge of leadership. These binding leadership principles have inspired Scouts since the very beginning when our first troupes were formed in Egypt, Lebanon and Syria in the 1930s. Our Scout Leaders have worked their way through the ranks of the program and organize young troops, meetings and activities. By accepting the responsibilities of troop leadership, Scouts are prepared to be leaders.

Our Program

Scout groups meet weekly for “Havak” gatherings every Saturday at our two locations. The program runs for 10 months and includes two opportunities for overnight camping experiences. Occasionally, the troupes plan trips to Armenia and other exchange opportunities with global AGBU scouts.
